Design Boom posted a great article about Ghanian photographer Philip Kwame Apagya, which I found riveting. He is known for his photos of African people posing before painted backdrops of environments or objects that are typically “objects of desire”. Below are some of his photos.
“Philip Kwame Apagya’s formal portraits in front of commissioned painted backgrounds seem to be suspended between realism and a sort of na?vité, they are both unreal and hyperealistic: the dreams of African people are put on stage –
against scenery which praises consumer society.” – Design Boom

So yes, it’s hard to acknowledge it (especially while I’m still in Hawaii in 82 degree weather), but Christmas is upon us. I came across this garland by Etsy seller afavorite, and thought it was a nice idea. Especially if you’re not too keen on traditional Christmas decorations.

PS. She also has some nice silkscreened and letterpress gift tags and cards….

I recently came across Mjolk (via Style Press) and they were kind enough to send me images of their SS08 collection. Both their mens’s and women’s collections are equally well thought out, which tends to be a rarity in the fashion world.

If you listen to Little Wings, you probably also know that Kyle Field is also a very talented illustrator. A while back some friends of mine were in a drawing show with him at Sea Level Records in LA, and I was really impressed by his work. I just thought of him again the other day, so I thought I’d post some of his work.

Speaking of rad watches… Etsy seller Deczka from Berlin makes these amazing lasercut leather “watches”, which will make you smile, even if you wouldn’t wear one. I smile thinking about how I could confound and frustrate people who always ask me what time it is…

Furni joined forces with Coolhunting to create this rad watch, which is a steal at $24. I also really love their other clocks.

The most breathtakingly beautiful photos from Raul Gutierrez… I looked through this site for quite a long time, and it was impossible to choose which photos were my favourite. Below are two that I fell in love with, however, you should look through his site to see the full range of his work.
