Drop City

drop_city_documentary_still_bernofsky.jpeg

A striking still from a new documentary about “Drop City“, a temporary artist’s community in Colorado during the late 1960’s.  It doesn’t look like there is a Los Angeles screening planned, but I hope to see this at some point!

Not surprisingly, this awesome macramé playground doesn’t exist anymore.  What a shame.

Bhalo

This beautiful line was featured on Refinery 29 and I just love it.  The line is fair-trade, and is hand-loomed and embroidered by women in rural Bangladesh.  Some really gorgeous prints and embroidery.

Satara tie-dye

I got an email from Label Gazer today, which is a site that spotlights fashion forward, ethical and eco-friendly fashion.   There are a ton of cute pieces from various labels on their site, but Satara stood out to me (even though I’m not typically into tie-dye, I love these)!

Alternative Apparel: Branching out

Are you familiar with Alternative Apparel?  I was first familiarized with them a few years ago when my husband was looking for a socially conscious tee shirt company to supply tees for printing, and was trying to avoid using American Apparel.   Alternative Apparel started out with basics but just like American Apparel has done over the years, Alternative Apparel is now branching out into hipper luxury knits that rival higher-end lines like T by Alexander Wang, or The Row.  Even Oak NYC is selling their tees.

Update: Osborn Design Studio

Osborn Design Studio has added some gorgeous embroidered boots and oxfords made with recycled huipils to their shop.   Seriously awesome, and not for the timid.

Atelier NL: Drawn from Clay

Atelier NL is a Dutch ceramics company making the most exquisite vessels out of clays derived from various areas around the Netherlands.  Each is stamped, documenting the origin of the earth which composes each unique piece.  Seriously wish I could have visited their studios while I was in the Netherlands!

Bodkin

I really like this line.  Below I’ve combined one look from Fall ‘09 (the top one just because I like it so much!) and some looks from the current Spring ‘10 collection.  They not only have beautiful designs, but they make the effort to source sustainable fabrics.

Etsy vintage picks: For Him

I used to do more posts for the guys out there, so this post is giving you all some love…  I would just like to point out that if you haven’t checked out this shop, you should!  There are really very few good Etsy shops out there that focus on quality men’s items.

Wolplamuur: finished sweater

So here’s the end result of my needle-felting patches onto my husband’s moth-eaten cashmere sweater (he was kind enough to model it for me).  Look here for the “before.” Super fun.  Original idea is here.  I have another sweater to do as well… this time in a cooler palette.  Have you tried your own yet?
