I found Karen Kimmel’s work (via here) and I was really interested in her collaboration with Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, which serves artists with physical, mental and developmental disabilities. During a series of workshops, the group created over 200 drawings with various stencils. Several of these were selected to be transformed into hooked rugs, at which point the rugs were sent to Kimmel and upholstered onto wooden bases.

This is a really nice (albeit a bit expensive) alternative to a Christmas tree… especially if you have modernist sensibilities! The maker, Buro North, says these trees are 80% more environmentally friendly than traditional pine trees. They come in multiple sizes, and can be used for years to come.

Domestic teamed up with select designers to create some limited edition plates. I especially love the ones from Dylan Martorell. I’ve been a fan of his work since my husband discovered a zine of his on Nieves and we found our way to his site.

Music Animation Machine is midi-rendered classical songs which have been animated… ’nuff said. Stephen Malinowski’s site is nothing glamourous, but the designs produced by his program are beautiful. The shot below is from his Claire de Lune animation.

“The Matching Game” at Rare Device… a well-designed, silkscreened version of the classic “Memory” game we’ve all played at one time or another.
