De la Tour

Look at this sexy modernist chair… where’s it from, you ask? Urban Outfitters! Good deal too, if you’ve got $160 laying around for a rainy day. *Too bad they had to knock off this Eames chair to get such a nice design.

Jacob Magraw-Mickelson

If you aren’t already familiar with Jacob Magraw’s work, it’s quite lovely. Once again, he’s someone I met at A.P.E. two years ago, and who actually went to school with my husband and some friends of ours. We have a zine he made, as well as some letterpress cards (2 of his painstakingly hand-painted business cards are hanging on our bathroom wall)! Lately he seems to have had a lot of success scoring not only a McSweeney’s cover, but the cover of the most recent Chuck Palahniuk book. Congratulations Jacob!

Vintage favourites: Lisa Larson for Gustavsberg

I love Danish modern pottery- Gustavsberg, Arabia of Finland, Kaj Franck, Porsgrund, Figgio. Plates, bowls, vases, you name it. I never thought I’d go for small ceramic sculptures of people or animals, but my exception to that is the work that Lisa Larson did for Gustavsberg from the 1950’s-1980’s.  It has held up quite well in my estimation. I love her little foxes, seals, elephants, people and almost everything she did for them. I’m happy to see them on Ebay, even if I can’t afford them. (Photos via here)

Birdstand

Well, I didn’t get anything on my list for Christmas, but I did get a nice zine from my husband. It’s by Scott at the Birdstand, purchased at Little Otsu. We were first introduced to the Birdstand when we met Scott and his wife (?) at A.P.E. two years ago and bought some of their work there… nice folks.  His new work looks great.
