Heather & Ivan Morison

I think this is some of the best sculptural work I’ve laid my eyes on in a while.  Their work is quite architectural in nature; even their kite sculptures appear to be futuristic buildings floating in the sky.  I spent so much time on their site looking at the animated gifs they made for each piece.  You should look at their site for more.

Juliette Warmenhoven at Coming Soon

On our trip to Arnhem, Netherlands we went to the Centruum where all the shops are, and paid a visit to Coming Soon, a very stylish little shop that all of the people at Werkplaats Typografie recommended to us.  I paid them a visit once by myself, on a day that they had Juliette Warmenhoven, a recent grad of ArtEZ setting up her mini-exhibit there (though at the time I thought they were just doing a new window display).   I came back the following day with my husband to find a nicely curated exhibit of jadeite green hydroponic systems and miscellaneous other lovelies on a large 2 tiered table.  I was too timid to take photos so these are from her site.  This exhibit combines my two loves: plants + design!  Check it out if you are in the area.

Atelier NL: Drawn from Clay

Atelier NL is a Dutch ceramics company making the most exquisite vessels out of clays derived from various areas around the Netherlands.  Each is stamped, documenting the origin of the earth which composes each unique piece.  Seriously wish I could have visited their studios while I was in the Netherlands!

Alexa Lixfeld Metamorphose

I adore this solid colour porcelain from Alexa Lixfeld.  Lovely.  Who says porcelain has to be prissy?

Jeannie Thib

How nice would it be to have this as a tile pattern somewhere in your house?  And by “your” I mean “my”.

Francisco Infante-Arana & Nonna Gorunova

This is by far the best work I’ve seen in a while.  Absolutely inspiring work from this husband and wife pair.  The photos are mostly of projects from the 70’s and 80’s, and I can think of a handful of artists making work right now that strives to look just like this, but not nearly as successfully executed.

Stalactites and stalagmites in an unlikely place

These lovely photos were taken in Russian sewage tunnels.  The colours, like the structures themselves, are caused by the build up of various types of minerals over time.  Unfortunately I’m not sure who actually took the photos, but look here to see more.
