Off Beat Repeat

Seth clued me into Off Beat Repeat which was made by our friend Mylinh Nguyen, as well as Sally Thurer, and Dan Michaelson.  You can make your own tiling patterns with a little help from their site.  It’s a fun little time waster… and it’s pretty.  Here’s part of one I made.

Etsy purchase: Vintage rainbow sandals

These just arrived and I’m so excited that they fit perfectly!  They’re vintage Comfort Contours by Wimzees, and I’m guessing they’re from the 80’s.  They were on sale in this shop which has an odd selection, but decent prices.

Please ignore my weird foot tan.  By the way, my nailpolish is Essie’s Playa del Platinum which is a current favourite.

Barlow: Fall 2010

Barlow clothing is named after Alice Barlow.  I should mention that Barlow was my manager, and I was her assistant manager, for a lovely and raucous three-and-a-half years.  When she interviewed me back in 2004, she was a tomboyish fresh-faced 19 year old wearing a Polo shirt, jeans, and sneakers.  Now she’s got a freaking hot clothing line named after her!  She’s working with Molly Girard Coonan, the designer of Cynthia Vincent, to create this gorgeous new line of clothes for chic/tough/feminine ladies everywhere.  I saw the Spring collection at Coterie last fall and loved it.

Congrats to Barlow and Coonan on the write up in NY Mag, and here’s to the continued success of the line.  Cheers!

Makelike: Cactus collection

Thanks to Makelike for contacting me about their current Cactus collection which I’m absolutely in love with!  These cactus tea towels and wallpaper are right up my alley.  As you know I’m a big cacti/succulent hobbyist, and if you’ll indulge me for a second I’d just like to say that I feel like cacti are rarely represented in a way that doesn’t come across as cheesy or “early 90’s”, if you know what I mean.  Also, it’s rare to see anything other than Saguaro depicted on anything.

So yes… this line is fantastic.  Also, everything is limited edition, so get them quickly.  Looking forward to seeing their next collection based on a celebration of the forest.

Vintage Find: Girard-esque needlepoint

Now hanging over my mantle:

The photo can’t begin to capture the colours.

Jello vs. Slime mold

Reminds me of:

Jello gif is from here and the slime mold gif from here.  I previously posted the slime mold gif here, but today when I saw the Jello gif, I started laughing thinking of the gross similarity to the slime mold animation.  Enjoy!

Update: Renilde DePeuter 1

You may remember this post.  Well Renilde’s work never ceases to amaze, and now she’s working on a new pincushion series called Metropolis which will be comprised of parts of the needlepoint below.  Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Etsy Vintage Pick: Vintage 14k gold and bone skull ring

Even though ultimately I would never wear this, I think that it’s amazing!  It’s from the 1970’s and is 14k gold which is crazy considering what it is.  I could see this on someone like Daphne Guinness perhaps.

Sweet Looks at Nasty Gal

I am loving these pieces at Nasty Gal right now (and they’re all under $100)! Many more great things are to be found on their site.

“Tricky Discs”

This is a book that I found (but did not buy) today at a thrift store.  I just loved the title and subject matter.  Not to mention the sweet typeface.
