Apologies

Hey everyone- sorry for the lack of posts.  We’ve been moving since last Wednesday, and we’re still unpacking.  Bear with me.  I will try to post soon.   Thanks!

Mid-Century sofa

Darn Urban Outfitters and their somewhat reasonably priced knock-offs of Danish modern furniture (as also mentioned in this previous post)! This sofa looks pretty great (although I haven’t seen it in person and sat on it, so I can’t vouch for the quality).

Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2008

I just looked at the Nina Ricci Pre-Fall collection and I am in love. I like it so much better that any of their past few collections. The colour pallette is so delicate and subtle, and so are the designs… (with just enough detailing to make them interesting).

American Illustration 26

So American Illustration apparently votes each year on various designs submitted by illustrators and compiles the winners into a book. If you have some spare time, you can look on their site to see all of the 915 submissions (not all of which are good, mind you)! Found via Julia Rothman’s “Book by its Cover” site… she happened to be a winner this year! Congrats Julia. Below is the cover by Evah Fan.

William Edmonds

Recently found William Edmonds site through a series of other sites, and I’m into his work… I especially like his collages.

Best find in Oahu

So as you may or may not remember, the hubby and I were in Oahu for 6 weeks (business for him, fun for me).  While he worked I would often troll thrift stores for vintage goodies.  We got back right before Christmas.  Here’s my best find:

It’s a little weird, I know, but I find it very charming.  It’s a vintage children’s bowl from Japan.  I found so many great vintage Japanese dishes in Oahu, as there are so many Japanese tourists passing through there and many who’ve probably bought property there over the years.  This was the only one I actually purchased though.

Peace Industry

These wool felt rugs by Melina Raissnia are gorgeous… I am a bit obsessed with felting since I took a class last year at Machine Project Gallery in Echo Park. I can’t imagine ever felting something this size!

Justin Fines: Animation for Yo Gabba Gabba

I really liked this animation by Justin Fines for Yo Gabba Gabba. The song has a very sweet message too, by Dean and Britta from Luna. In case you aren’t familar with YGG, it’s a show that’s geared towards the children of parents who are 20 to 30-something and nostalgic for vintage Sesame Street (ie: when it was cool and sort of psychedelic). Our friend Scott Windes works on the show, and Seth has even contributed too so we’re a bit partial, but we really like what they’re doing over there. It’s a show that you can appreciate creatively, even if you don’t have kids.
