A gentle reprove from the George Eastman House…

I received this email from Ryan Donahue at the George Eastman House..

“Just a minor point, the post implies GEH is a historical society, whereas we are actually a museum, whose focus is primarily photography and film (and, by extension, George Eastman)”

Duly noted… museum, not historical society…

Vintage find: Circus toys

This was a fun find. There are 42 pcs. in all- this photo is half of of them- there are more seals, some tigers, and more bears.

Purple heart box

My step-brother Blair has a knack for making things out of wood.  Look at this lovely box he made for my sister-in-law with Purple Heart and Zebrawood (which I’ve heard are both hard to work with).

Vintage finds: Bakelite

So lately I’ve had the very good fortune to find a lot of Bakelite which I will be putting up on Ebay. I can’t tell you where, but I will show you my most recent finds. Did I mention that these finds have been under $2?

Vintage find: Postcards

So my husband and I found several vintage postcards in Ouray, Colorado while shopping around… of course none of which were actually from the place we were staying!  We found several postcards for Cave of the Winds, which is in Manitou, Colorado; a booklet of postcards for the San Diego Zoo; and a beautiful Mexican postcard of the most elaborate headdresses.   The one below is a hand-coloured postcard from the Cave of the Winds… which we consequently now want to visit.

Colorado finds

So while my husband and I were out of town visiting Colorado, and all of his family living there, I was scouting for some good finds. I found some nice things in Boulder- my favourites were these pillows below, which are made in the south by a woman named Wilma (that’s all the info the ladies at the shop would give me) from old European feedsack cloth. They were so simple and lovely. The pillow inserts were made from a nice striped cotton ticking, over a down and feather pillow insert. They were nearly $100 so I didn’t buy any, but was definitely inspired by them.

We also found some amazing vintage postcards, beads, and more which I have to document still, and will post later in the week!

I’m back!

Hi everyone- so sorry for the lack of posts, but I’ve been out of town visiting my husband’s family in Colorado.  Very relaxing, but not much internet connectivity!  I will be back to posting this week.

Vintage find: Leather horse head

This is probably the best vintage purchase I’ve made for a while!  This leather horse head is in mint condition.  It measures about 4.5″ tall and mounts on the wall… very stately yet somewhat comical.  He is now deemed the “Guardian of the Keys” as he is proudly mounted by the door over our key hooks.

Here my first attempts at making felt hand-puppets for some of my friends who are expecting soon.
