Vintage find: Summer necklace
I am so excited. A few weeks ago I fell into want with this huge, torso covering Intan Necklace from By Malene Birger.
Today at a thrift store I found this one, which I actually like even better (partially because of the $5 price tag) and because it’s a more versatile size and much more authentic:
Bungalow Sofa
So this is the sofa we bought from Urban Outfitters about a year ago-it’s a little squeaky, and not the most comfortable for extended sitting, but it’s been fine. It looked better than the designs at Ikea, and was a comparable price.
However, I just saw this one while hunting around on the U.O. site, which is almost an exact knock off of the vintage Danish Modern style ones that we really love- and it matches the style of the Danish Modern chair my husband picked up at a swapmeet for $20. C’est la vie. Someday maybe we’ll find an authentic one at another swapmeet for a song… haha probably not here in LA though!
Trends I cannot get behind
Since my blog is mostly comprised of things I like, I thought I’d do a post about things I really don’t like!
Trends I can’t (and probably never will) get into:
- Towering high-heels and boots
- Leather shorts (this trend makes no sense at all..)
- Half-shaved heads (you know who you are, *ahem Alice Dellal*)
- People wearing leotards and tights in public (with nothing else), when they are definitely not coming from a dance recital.
- People wearing tops as dresses (don’t think you’re pulling that look off) with no leggings or pants
- Drop-crotch/Harem pants (aka Hammer Pants)
- Beige lipstick
- Crotch-high boots: they DO NOT replace pants.
Jean Pierre Jeunet for Chanel No. 5
I am loving this commercial shot by Jeunet for Chanel, with the ever adorable Audrey Tatou (soon to play Chanel in a biopic). Il est tr?s romantique, n’est-ce pas?
Erin M. Riley
Erin is someone I discovered while searching through Etsy. She is working on an MFA in fibers at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Her shop contains beautifully woven scarves and this dress which I adore.
I was then led to her site which contains the most beautiful and rather heartbreaking woven tapestries, frequently dealing with car accidents, trauma and death. I’m so glad to have stumbled across her work.
Vintage Liz Claiborne shoes on Ebay
These are not my size, but I think they’re so amazing. I would totally try to win them if they were! Liz Claiborne used to make some rad stuff. One more day left…
Etsy pick: Brandi Strickland
I added Brandi to my Etsy favourites sometime last month, then completely forgot that I wanted to revisit her shop and do a little post about her (this happens to me fairly often). Oops. So here it is… I love her work.
