I love these illustrations by Ivan Bilibin of Baba Yaga (the lower illustration) and Vasilisa. Dark and beautifully unsettling (as fairy tales really are). I had never heard the tale of Baba Yaga until I worked with a Ukranian woman. Today while refreshing my memory of her fable, I discovered Ivan Bilibin’s illustrations.

With so many of my friends having babies recently (or in the near future), I’m always on the lookout for baby presents. The Wooly Baby shop makes the cutest baby and children’s slippers of all. They use sweaters and re-purpose them into the most adorable little footwear. A little out of my price range, but I do always love to see what they’ve made from time to time!

Look what just bloomed in my garden today! It’s the first time it’s bloomed. I think they are the most charming little flowers. This variety of Euphorbia is called “Tiny Tim”.

I scored this book the other day at one of my favourite thrift stores. Some times I don’t have patience for thrift store book sections because there is generally no organization and it can be quite overwhelming! I was glad I did last week because I found an old Jacques Cousteau book on Squid and Octopus; a first edition Shel Silverstein book; a great old Life book called The World We Live In; and this book on geology that I’m picturing below. Score! I especially love the endpapers in this geology book. Gorgeous.
